Pure Sushi

by jane zock at Citysearch

Alpine Teriyaki and Sushi is a hidden gem on the North Side of Grand Rapids! Always fresh, the veggie udon is my favorite "starter", with a delicious broth and plenty of broccoli, carrots and other goodies and of course the udon noodles!

I especially love the crunchy, spicy maki/hand roll and the unagi/nigiri sushi.

I would like to see the resteraunt expand just a little bit without losing it's charm.

The family that operates this spot are friendly, informative and make you want to come back!

NOT GOOD SERVICE!

by LJH147 at Citysearch

I do not know what everyone is talking about regarding good service. I have been AT&S about 3 times and always had horrible service. There are two main ladies there. All they do is gossip VERY loudly behind the bar. This place is VERY small and they play no music, so all you hear is them talking! It is very annoying! I will give them this, MOST all of the food I had there was fresh BUT the yellowtail. We could tell the yellowtail was not fresh because it was grey, not white! If I owned a sushi bar, I would rather tell the customer that I did not have any more yellowtail rather than serving OLD yellowtail. I do like the presentation of the sushi is beautiful. My boyfriend and I need to find a new sushi place because we will not tolerate bad service! Prices are not cheaper at better and bigger sushi bars. You have been warned!

  • Pros: All fresh sushi besides yellowtail
  • Cons: Horrible service!

Fast Sushi service

by Chris Co at Citysearch

I haven't had Sushi since I left my Southern Tejas(San Anto) home. So as you might imagine, I was really looking forward to some good stuff. I'd searched Sushi restaurants in this frozen wasteland and only found one pure sushi(Non-Chinese buffet) place.

In my experience, buffet Sushi is almost always of the most questionable quality at best.

I visited AT&S early Friday afternoon. The restaurant is small(20 seats or so, spread among a few tables and seats at the bar), which was fine with me... It was slightly reminiscent of the street side noodle stand in Blade Runner.

I was greeted and served quickly. The Menu had a large selection of sushi and other items. The Misou soup was good-not too salty. I ordered Spicy crunchy Tuna, Alaska, and Dragon Rolls. When the Sushi was served , it was well presented, light and tasted great! Easily as good as what I am used to back home.

This place has made Michigan a little less difficult to for me to live in.

Thanx !

  • Pros: Great food , quick and courteous service
  • Cons: none!
