OVERPRICED POOR QUALITY.
I had the unfortunate opportunity to have a 6:30pm reservation at Louis Benton restaurant last night November 11, 2011. I will explain, this was not my first trip to the restaurant, but surely by far the worst.
We arrived at 6:15pm and were immediately seated. We had availed ourselves of the groupon offer, and since we spend many evenings in downtown Grand Rapids, we are season ticket holders to the Grand Rapids Symphony. We were served wine it was good. Then my wife had salad I had soup. My soup was cold, not cool COLD. Called server who removed it and in a short time received a hot bowl of soup. The manager came to our table apologized and shortly after brought me a $50 complimentary gift card. Then we waited and waited took 45 min to receive our entrees. I had the sirloin, my wife had the pork. One bite my steak was very very cool, also the vegetables were cold, the mashed potatoes were warm but the texture was as if they had sat a long time. (They started to congeal)but they were at least warm. I called my waitress I asked her to summon the manager again, when he arrived I asked him if he had a thermometer, said no, I informed him of the temperature of the dinner as previously have described. He asked me if he could provide me another. I could not wait. I ATE MY DINNER COLD! Also noting that my wives dinner, the pork was under cooked, not raw but extremely pink, but hers was warm. After this followed desert, ice cream. Would you believe you even made that uneatable? It was served in a glass dish that appeared as if it was prepared several days ago and kept uncovered in a freezer. It was totally hard as a rock and frosted over. Called Mr. manager to our table again, asked if I would like another desert, said no I had enough. Waitress offered coffee, Your not going to believe this, was served the remains of a pot 3/4 cup and it was warm, not hot. She did upon serving say she was making a new pot. The second cup of coffee was fine. After dinner my waitress returned to our table to tell us the groupon in this instance was all we owed. I directly gave her a cash tip, she did her job, and handed her back the $50 gift card and requested she give it back to you.
